WatchESPN Blackout Map [LINK]

Sep 8, 2016, 9:53 AM

I will NEVER understand blackouts. I think it's total BS. I will be attending my daughter's travel softball tournament in Charlotte and have a break between games 12-3pm. I pay for cable and have the app on my phone. CAN'T WATCH! Really burns me up. Rant over.

Does anyone have a suggestion of another way or good radio option?

I've not tried this but...

Sep 8, 2016, 10:01 AM

if you are on a PC, you can try to open the website in private or incognito mode. This may allow you to view it because they don't know where you are necessarily. I would be curious if it works.

Just a thought.... good luck

Go Tigers!!

I think you have the wrong impression of private/incognito mode. Doesn't hide your location simply keeps the browser from tracking your activity. Your IP address will still be logged based on your access point. Only way to throw your location is a proxy.

Does your cable have a live stream option?

Sep 8, 2016, 10:02 AM

The reason the game is blacked out on ESPN is b/c it is being broadcasted locally on the ACC network/Raycom Sports. See if you can download an ACC network app and stream the game that way or stream your cable live to your phone.

Thank you. I downloaded the ACC Sports app on my android phone and it appears they stream live. I suppose if it doesn't actually work live it's still convenient app with a "gametracker" function and suggested radio options.

Sorry for the rant before I figured it out. Hahaha GOOOOO Tigers!

so if you're in the black - you have to watch online?

Sep 8, 2016, 10:02 AM

If you're in the black, it's on a local channel and WatchESPN will be blacked out.

I think their rationale is...

Sep 8, 2016, 10:05 AM

...when you subscribe to cable you agree to pay for their service which includes forcing you to watch their commercials. They blackout areas on WatchESPN in your area because they are already showing the game on cable and they want to force you to watch the commercials on cable. Too bad they haven't figured out how to provide the same cable feed in your local area to the WatchESPN event you are streaming.

I agree...it sux!

ACC network has it online.

Record it on Dish DVR and then watch via the app

Sep 8, 2016, 10:17 AM

Cable might have the same system but you can record a show and then immediately watch on the app the show that is currently recording. Also if you know anyone outside the blackout area that has Watch ESPN, their login may enable you to watch it.

Re: WatchESPN Blackout Map [LINK]

Try downloading TunnelBear, which is a VPN service. You get 500MB free, which should probably cover the whole game...but I also believe you get a free gig if you tweet about their service (If I remember correctly, there is a link provided in their app/website, so tweeting it is simple). This will definitely cover you for the game.

Once you have that done, connect to the VPN on your phone and you should be able to watch from the WatchESPN app without blackout.

Good luck!

P.S. If all else fails, start looking for bars near the tournament!

Is it available on DirectTV in the Aiken area?

WatchESPN? It's available everywhere

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i dont know if this is the case where you live

Sep 8, 2016, 11:10 AM

but I think they are playing local here in Raleigh on CBS.

CBS has an app that lets you watch live TV...again I don't know if it will get blacked our not but its worth checking out. plus you get a 7 day free trial so why not try?

ESPN/Xfinity has a remote option

Sep 8, 2016, 11:29 AM

It allows you to log in and watch ESPN from other than your home. My son has Xfinity and an ESPN login, so I use it to watch from Colorado. I must logon as him for both ESPN and Xfinity.

Blacked out on WatchESPN from any login except one outside the area. I believe the ACC Sports app will work. Thanks.
